Port Monmouth, NJ – July 1970

One of the strangest New Jersey Big Foot sightings not only involved more than one large, hairy bi-pedal creatures, but also a UFO.

The episode began in early July 1970 when several residents of Port Monmouth, New Jersey, reported seeing a UFO over the nearby marshes.

Local newspapers covered the incident at the time, and most gave a pretty thorough run-down of what the locals saw.

After the UFO “fan-fare” ran its course, researchers from the Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained (SITU) showed up to investigate the UFO sighting.

In the course of their investigation, SITU also learned from local witnesses that a family of Big Foot were seen in the vicinity and apparently took some vegetables from one woman’s garden.

A sighting of a UFO and a family of garden raiding Big Foot creatures in Port Monmouth, New Jersey is pretty odd. (Port Monmouth is close enough to New York City that you can see the Verrazano Bridge even on a hazy day.)

What makes the incidents even stranger, or maybe provides an explanation, is the appearance of SITU.

SITU’s President, Robert C. Warth, lived only a few miles away in Little Silver, New Jersey. The investigation “job” was therefore only a short commute.

Little Silver borders Fort Monmouth, which at the time, was the headquarters of the US Army’s Signal Corp. The Signal Corp. was responsible for all aspects of US Military communications, including developing and testing new technologies and psychological operations.

Robert C. Warth was a contractor at Fort Monmouth, while he was with SITU, so we remain skeptical as to whether Port Monmouth’s UFO / Big Foot invasion of 1970 really happened, or if it was some sort of US Army project for who knows what purpose.
